The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple. Psa. 119:130

The target of the word of God is not primarily our circumstances and situations, but rather our hearts. Our heart is the focus of God’s word. When the heart has been influenced by the word of God, it will change our confession and ultimately our circumstances. Rom.10:10

Many are making the mistake to only seek the word of God to act on their situations and this leads to all kinds of frustrative thoughts, when the word cannot be replicated and encountered as we have read in the scriptures or testified by another believer. Thoughts of doubts, unbelief, bias and favouritism begin to play out in our heads and some even give up completely.

If this is your situation today, you are not alone, the disciples had a similar experience.
Immediately He made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side……Then He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against them. ….He came to them, walking on the sea, and would have passed them by. And when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed it was a ghost, and cried out, …… Then He went up into the boat to them, and the wind ceased. … For they had not understood about the loaves, because their heart was hardened. Mk.6:45-52

Why would the bible use the word hardness of heart for the disciples of Jesus? A term that commonly conveys wickedness, stubbornness and the likes. So, clearly hardness of heart is not primarily judged by actions but rather by the disposition of the heart. Remember our actions are products of our heart’s believe. Let’s see v52b from other versions of the bible to help our understanding:

  • Their hearts were too hard to take it in. NLT
  • They didn’t want to believe!. TLB
  • None of this had yet penetrated their hearts. MSG
  • Their hearts were unwilling to learn the lesson. TPT

They observed the compassion of Jesus, they heard His prayers, they served the bread, they saw that everyone ate, they carried the left over 12 baskets yet, their hearts did not take it in. They almost perished the very next minute, if Jesus had not showed up.

Meditate on these words and make your hearts yield to the words of God.
…To be continued.

You are blessed.
