For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then my faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be broken,” says the Lord, who has mercy on you Isa. 54:10
The God we serve, has many great attributes which places Him in a class separate from all other gods. He is the almighty God, all powerful, all knowing, all-seeing God and many more. As believers, we are called to approach God knowing these attributes are true about Him.
As we begin to approach the new testament where we have a complete and perfect revelation of the person of God, the attribute that stands out is the Love of God. Jesus came and made us realize that all divine instructions are summed up in that one word – Love (Matt. 22:34-40). Apostle Paul came in more directly and made us realize that in our walk with God, nothing can be comparable to understanding God’s love and making it the motivation for all our sacrifices (1 Cor. 13). The implication of this for us believers, is that we must give ourselves to understanding God’s love in its various manifestations as we go through life.
John the beloved, made a very categorical statement – that GOD IS LOVE (1 Jhn 4:8). This is the truth that the enemy will do all possible to make you doubt. The moment we doubt God’s love, our faith is weakened, and all other attributes of God begin to lose their place of importance in our heart. Its difficult to trust and have faith in any human, god or God whose love you are not confidently assured.
Most times, doubt steps in when we go through challenging events in our lives and everything around us begins to indicate that God no longer loves us. The moment you entertain that thought in your heart, doubt steps in, your capacity to pray is weakened and faith is paralysed. Isa. 54:10 reminds us that trials, challenges, problems and so on do not in any way invalidate the Love that God has for us. Apostle Paul made it more clearly in the NLT rendition below:
Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.” No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. Rom. 8:35 (NLT)
Read that last line again, – we are overcomers through Christ that LOVES us. The secret to ultimate victory in life is to ensure that you don’t get distracted from the Love of God or be made to doubt His Love. We are not overcomers, because He is all powerful, all knowing etc but simply because He loves us. The good news is, this Love God has for us never changes. It’s an anchor for our heart as we pull through challenging times.
For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation. Psa. 100:5
Beloved, keep holding on…. His love will always come through for you.
You are blessed.
