Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Prov. 4:23 (NLT)

Above all else, guard your affections. For they influence everything else in your life. Prov. 4:23 (TLB)

Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts. Prov. 4:23 (GNT)

We are in the age where so much information, data, statistics, trends and facts flow around freely – both solicited and unsolicited. A time where you are practically bullied to consider all this information or you may be termed ignorant, illiterate, uneducated, unexposed or simply foolish.

It is a time where there is every effort to replace the unchanging words of God with the wisdom of men. A time when because of the preponderance of these information, we are in a race against time to chew them all and ultimately, we relegate the major information to the background.

God knew this time would come and he already warned us ahead. Because practically speaking, what information was available in the days of David and Solomon? Compared to our days, we can confidently say insignificant. As such this warning is more apt for our time than theirs: GUARD YOUR HEART.

To guard means – watch over in order to protect or control, protect against damage or harm. Clearly, we cannot delegate this task. You have to do it yourself – consistently, continuously and carefully. How do you go about this:

My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body. (Prov.4:20-22)

  1. Pay attention to the word of God. Consider the word of God, seek the word of God, default to the word of God, understand the word of God.
  2. Don’t lose sight of the word. Make the word your focus, not your circumstance, not your fears, not your failures, not what the world offers, not what your body is saying. Remember, the bible said … Abraham did not consider his body(Rom.4:19) and that principle applies for every aspect of our lives. Ultimately what you focus on, consistently, becomes your reality. (Heb.12:2)
  3. Keep the word in your heart. Let the word of God form the raw material for your thoughts, let your hearts be influenced and transformed by the word of God. This is the duty and responsibility of believers. To live out the name – BELIEVER- you need to constantly let your heart know that you believe the word of God. It calls for discipline, tenacity, consistency and never giving up.

These are not normal times; we need unwavering faith to go through these last days. Let’s be mindful of the conditions of our heart, don’t entertain failure, defeat, sickness, fear, death and all forms of negativity. No matter the fact before you, refuse to take your eyes off the word of God.

This is the real warfare and you better win it!

You are blessed.
