So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”(Gen.1:26-28)
The very first blessing God pronounced on man immediately after creation was the blessing of fruitfulness. This is strategic because only by fruitfulness can man fulfil God’s ultimate agenda of the dominion mandate. If I am not fruitful, I cannot be in charge of my environments, situations and circumstances.
Little wonder Jesus declared categorically:
“He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” John 15:2
Clearly If I am not fruitful, I am not fulfilling God desire for my life:
“So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’” Luk.13:7
Only the fruitful remain relevant, are given kingdom responsibility and are empowered to rule their world.
“And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet. And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter forever. And his disciples heard it. Mark 11:13-14
Our fruitfulness brings delight to God and positions us for more kingdom blessings. Fruitfulness empowers us to be a blessing to those around us and furthers the message of redemption. One of the consequences of the fall of man is barrenness and only by locating yourself in Christ and becoming redeemed from the curse of the law can your fruitfulness mandate be unleashed.
“Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: “ ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvellous in our eyes’ “Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.” Matt.21:42-43
Beloved, don’t excuse fruitlessness, don’t explain it away, don’t be deceived about it, because you have been empowered and blessed by God to be fruitful.
You are blessed.
