I know you are about to arise and show your tender love to Zion. Now is the time, Lord, for your compassion and mercy to be poured out—the appointed time has come for your prophetic promises to be fulfilled! For your servants weep in sympathy over Zion’s ruins and feel love for her every stone. Psa.102:13-14 (TPT)
Enjoying God’s favour is exclusively for those who have a covenant relationship with God, i.e. those who have received the gift of righteousness in Christ Jesus and love Him above all else.
Beyond that however, for a continuous favour of God upon our lives we must be committed to the heartbeat of God.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matt.6:33
If you want to enjoy God’s favour, check and examine how committed are you to soul winning, helping the needy, strengthening the weak, and supporting God’s kingdom expansion. If none of these moves you, favour may just be far away from you. The favour of God flows freely for those who are so concerned about God’s kingdom business beyond their selfish desires.
We see this exemplified by the story of Nehemiah in the building of the walls of Jerusalem. Nehemiah was the king’s cup-bearer when the news of Jerusalem got to him:
….The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.” When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven. Neh.1:3-4
Upon hearing the news, Nehemiah was burdened for the house of the Lord, even though he was enjoying the comfort of the palace. He immediately set his heart to ensure that Jerusalem was rebuilt:
…I said to the king, “May the king live forever! Why should my face not look sad when the city where my ancestors are buried lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire?” The king said to me, “What is it you want?” Then I prayed to the God of heaven. Neh.2:3-4
Nehemiah’s burden for the house of God brought him into favour before the king and he got all he requested for.
I also said to him, “If it pleases the king, may I have………And because the gracious hand of my God was on me, the king granted my requests. Neh.2:7-8
The wall of Jerusalem was completely rebuilt in 52 days because Nehemiah had all he wanted by the favour of God upon his life.
So the wall was completed on the twenty-fifth of Elul, in fifty-two days. When all our enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations were afraid and lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this work had been done with the help of our God. Neh.6:15-16
When next you desire God’s favour, check your motives and realize the giver has a purpose for what He is sending your way. Remember He owns everything, including what you have with you now.
When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. James 4:3
