Surely, LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favour as with a shield. Psa.5:12
Anyone who desires God’s favour, must give himself to examining the scriptures for insights that guarantee the favour of the Lord. Even though the scriptures clearly state that the ways of God are past finding out (Isa.55:9), it is reassuring that God also makes plain the things that pertain to our benefits (Prov.8:8-9; 2 Pet.1:3). Attracting God’s favour is also not left out of the revelations God has provided for us.
In the text passage above, the bible declares that the favour of the Lord is available to anyone that has received the righteousness of the Lord. It is not surprising because, favour is a kingdom privilege and only those in right standing with God’s kingdom are entitled to it.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matt.6:33
Fools mock at sin, but among the upright there is favour. Prov.14:9
Clearly we cannot be praying for favour and not be in right standing with God. Much as our own righteousness amounts to nothing before the Lord (Isa.54:6), God expects us to receive and remain in the righteousness that has been purchased for us by the blood of Jesus.
What does Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness. Rom.4:3
The moment we accept Christ’s finished work on the cross, we become candidates of His favour in every aspect of our lives.
We see this clearly demonstrated in the testimony of Daniel and the three Hebrew children in the land of Babylon (Daniel 1-3). They decided against all odds to remain in right standing with God even at the risk of their lives.
But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way. Now God had caused the official to show favour and compassion to Daniel. Dan.1:8-9)
Daniel’s resolve to remain in right standing with God provoked divine favour with the king’s officials just like it did for Joseph while he was locked up in prison. The favour came by reason of the sacrifice that Daniel made to stand by God’s words. It was the same testimony with the three Hebrew children when the king demanded the worship of his image that was setup in the land:
But there are some Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon—Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego—who pay no attention to you, Your Majesty. They neither serve your gods nor worship the image of gold you have set up.” Dan.3:12
……But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” Dan.3:18
Because they stood for the Lord in righteousness, God was waiting for them in the furnace and afterward launched them into favour.
He said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.” Dan.3:25
Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the province of Babylon. Dan.3:30
Walking in righteousness is walking in an endless stream of divine favour. In Christ, you have received the gift of righteousness.
Beloved, if you have responded in love to the finished work of Christ on Calvary, a life of favour is yours!
You are blessed.
